Ep. 8 David Ortega - Professor and Noel W. Stuckman Chair in Food Economics & Policy at Michigan State University

"Food is so personal but it is also such a universal need that all we have."

For the eighth episode of Taste Talks Studio, I had the pleasure of talking to David Ortega, a professor and Noel W. Stuckman Chiar in Food Economics and Policy at Michigan State University. Dr. Ortega is an Applied economist with research experience in consumer and producer behavior, food marketing, and agricultural development.

Dr. Ortega shares his journey into the field and discusses key drivers of food price inflation from supply chain instability to shifting trade policies. We also explore the volatility of egg prices and the impact of bird flu outbreaks, as well as the role of tariffs, labor policies, and government interventions in food affordability. To conclude, Dr. Ortega gives insights into his current research and offers advice for those interested in food economics.
